DAY 3: Serengeti Journey

After an early breakfast at your lodge in Karatu (around 07:30–08:00), you’ll depart for Serengeti National Park, driving through the scenic Ngorongoro Conservation Area along the way.

The Serengeti is Tanzania’s most famous park and one of the greatest wildlife sanctuaries on earth. Its name comes from the Maasai word “Seringiti”, meaning “endless plains”, a perfect description of its sweeping landscapes. Spanning nearly 14,763 square kilometers, the park supports an astonishing abundance of wildlife — with over 2 million large mammals calling it home.

The Serengeti is best known for the Great Migration, one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, where more than a million wildebeest, joined by hundreds of thousands of zebras and antelopes, move across the plains in search of fresh grazing. In addition, the park shelters an incredible variety of animals, from giraffes, buffaloes, impalas, gazelles, hippos, and hartebeests to top predators such as lions, leopards, cheetahs, hyenas, and jackals. Bird enthusiasts will also find delight here, with over 500 species recorded, including ostriches, kori bustards, vultures, eagles, kingfishers, and colorful rollers.

The Serengeti’s landscapes are as diverse as its wildlife: short-grass plains in the southeast, rolling hills and rocky outcrops (kopjes) in the north, and the lush Grumeti River region in the west with its valleys and forests. Each area offers unique game-viewing opportunities and breathtaking scenery.

You’ll enjoy a picnic lunch inside the park before continuing your game drives into the afternoon. As evening approaches, head to your accommodation inside or near the Serengeti, where dinner and overnight await.
